The Bad Wolf necklace and bracelet sets in silver and bronze. (Copper coming soon). I know I’ve mentioned my Bad Wolf bracelets before, these sets are inspired by that first happy accident.

Inspired by Rose Tyler from Doctor Who Season One - The Parting of the Ways. “I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself. I take the words. I scatter them … in time, and space. A message to lead myself here.”

If anyone is interested, these two are for sale on my Etsy. The copper is coming soon.

Middle-schoolers use video game to reimagine Hamilton’s West HarbourCity planning is tricky business. Those who do it for a living must pay heed to grownup concerns like zoning, environmental regulations and the cost of building in concrete and steel. But adult decision-makers aren’t the only ones affected by changes in the urban form, nor do they hold a monopoly on smart ideas about how their neighbourhoods should take shape.Students in a gifted class at Dalewood Middle School in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, are throwing this point into sharp (yet pixelated) relief. Using a video game called Minecraft, they’ve re-envisioned vacant plots of land in the city’s post-industrial north end, demonstrating that urban planning can be educational and fun. What did the process look like? I love Minecraft. Just love and adore.

Here is just a sample of some of my recent photo project, CONsent, which you can read about here.

Please read and spread the word around. I got to work with some great cosplayers, photographers and fans and I really hope to continue this project if it gains enough support.

Thank you for looking!

I just want to say that as a cosplayer at cons, this is a real issue. The amount of things that get said (and mostly REQUESTED) to us is ridiculous. This deserves a signal boost.

On Facebook a couple days ago BelleChere posted basically asking people to not proposition her. Throughout the comments she noted she was married and neither one of them appreciated creepy comments made toward her. A number of people proceeded to argue with her saying that because she dressed up, it was okay.

I know a ton of people who have dealt with harassment at cons and they feel like they can’t say anything because it’s a convention. WRONG. You deserve to feel safe no matter where you are. Dressing up is not giving someone permission to say something to you or do anything to you.

This is a great project and it gets a boost from me.

As I’m usually a princess I dont get this reaction, but I do see other girls get this and it’s just plain wrong, x

Signal boost from me cause I think this is great. When I make Ming Numara, I want to carry a sign like this around.

Advice as a cosplayer dealing with sexual harassment

One of the nicest things I’ve learned about the convention community and especially the cosplay community is that we as a group are far less likely to suffer the ‘bystander effect’ (where you think someone else will help that person out first). So when you audibly call out in a group an issue of harassment, someone or many people will be at your aid in seconds.

  • Groped? Call off as loud as you can ‘hands off my X.’ It will draw the attention immediately to the creeper who will scurry off or get caught by security
  • Told ‘Oh you deserve it cause of your costume?’ Call your friends over, or better yet, bystanders in cosplay and ask them, loudly: ‘Do you think wearing this means I’m a second class citizen?’ Now your numbers are growing and more than likely, the offenders courage will shrink away.
  • Creepy Photographer? Tell them you’re done. Say thats as far as you’re willing to go and walk away. If they follow you, have them tail you directly to a member of con OR hotel/convention center security and point them out immediately.
  • See someone who looks very uncomfortable or out of place? Go up to them and ask them if they are ok. If not? Offer to take them to convention security.
  • See someone being a douchebag or a creeper? Get their photo! Either via someone else or your own cellphone. Take that directly to convention security. 9/10 they will identify the person and have them banned.

The problem I find with most people and being unable to stand up to these sort of issues is that they do not feel comfortable doing it because it’s a convention, they might be scared of physical abuse, or more afraid of the fact that they feel no one will help them.

The cosplay community is like a giant family. Sure, we all like to compete, rag on each other behind the scenes and roll our eyes at each others issues, but at the end of the day we love each other and we will do whatever we can to help each other, especially in cases like these.

My favorite stories:

  • At Otakon one year I caught a late night photo shoot on one of the tilted side walls with a Mercury. She looked extremely awkward and out of place. Without questioning it I rushed up to her and went “Hey! Honey we’re late for the masquerade come on!” without a second thought she scurried saying sorry, grabbed her bag and ran off with me. We got all the way back into the hotel and she thanked me for saving her. I made a good friend that day
  • One time I caught a guy with an -actual shoe camera- taking shots of panties of some sailor moon girls. Without the drop of a hat I loudly asked: Hey, where’d you get your shoe camera? Immediately all attention was on him. An entire Yu Yu Hakusho group rushed after the man to catch him. I heard later from security he was caught and taken to the police (since some of the girls he was taking photos of were underage.)

Reblogging this again because yes.
